Food Allergies

Marcia Cihouski, LPN – BreatheAmerica Albuquerque If someone has a food allergy their immune system overreacts to protein in that food. Some people may think they have food allergies, but it may be that they have an intolerance. If a person suspects they or their child has a food allergy, BreatheAmerica can test for those allergies. Babies, children and adults can all develop food allergies at any time. Children are more likely to outgrow these allergies. Some food allergies can be life threatening, so a person should avoid the foods they suspect until they can be tested. There are eight foods that cause the majority of food allergies: dairy (cow), eggs, peanut, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat and tree nuts.
