Shannon’s dad always knew that she’d find herself in the medical field. From an early age, he encouraged her to become a nurse. She, however, never considered a medical career until she joined the Air Force and was assigned a job as a dental assistant in 1993.
After almost a decade in this role, Shannon was inspired to pursue a career in Radiography, which, after five years, inspired her to take her education even further, going on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 2012, then her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in 2014.
Her biggest motivations are her genuine desire to help others and to show her children—all 4 of them, ranging from her grown stepchildren to her 10 and 7-year-olds—that anything is possible. One of the most special moments of her career is when they all watched her graduate from PA school at 43 years old!
Since that graduation, Shannon has enjoyed an exciting career in caregiving. While she has great interest in and appreciates the value of general medicine, she has been delighted to pursue a specialty, as she feels it will provide her with more opportunity to thoroughly follow a patient through the diagnostic process and treatment. Educating her patients is one of her favorite parts of caregiving!
When she’s not seeing patients, Shannon stays super active. From following her children to their after school sports and activities, to camping, bicycling, and volunteering at church, Shannon never has a dull moment. She and her husband of 15 years have loved their time in Shreveport so much that they convinced her mother to move here from New York!
We at BreatheAmerica Shreveport are so proud to have Shannon on our team!
