Share a Smile

Ashley Gudgel, Executive Director – BreatheAmerica Albuquerque Do you know your kindness shown with a simple smile may change a stranger’s bad day, to a better day? Everyone, from every race, culture or religion understands a smile. Smiles are known to be contagious. In most cases, when you smile at someone they will respond back with a smile in return. Studies suggest that smiling reduces stress and can help generate positive emotions within yourself and others. In other words, smiling causes happiness.
Did you ever think about how many times a day you smile? The average adult only smiles 20-times a day, while a child smiles an average of 400-times a day. Our brains receive feedback from our muscles to help discern how we feel, when that feedback reflects positive feelings, the result is smiling. People usually believe when someone smiles they are more approachable, and even tend to believe they are more trustworthy. Studies show that when solicitors can see their own reflection in a mirror while talking to a potential client on the phone, make more sales. People tend to smile at their reflection, which translates to a positive, upbeat voice.
So when you come to see us at BreatheAmerica, expect to receive a warm welcoming smile, several time during your visit from several people. We not only want to help you feel better, but to make your day a bit brighter just by extending a smile. You have to admit, there are lots of positive reasons to “smile, and make someone happy”, so “turn that frown upside down”. Let’s all smile more.
